Hi Laura, very valid point:). I fact i knew i would be asked this question. Some findings suggest that male monogamy might also be influenced by variations in a single gene. The gene in question affects the receptor for a hormone called vasopressin, which plays an important role in social behaviour, pair-bonding and sexual attachment. Some researches have shown that that variation in a section of the gene called RS3 334 was linked to how men bond with their partners. Men can have none, one or two copies of the RS3 334 section, and the higher the number of copies, the worse men scored on a measure of pair bonding. Some of these findings were published as part of The study has been published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
Cheers!

I am certain there are genes that govern monogamy. My ex left me and exhibits all of the traits that the researchers say she should have concerning the non-monogamous gene variations or whatever. Like the RS3 334 expressions. I mean, she is paranoid, she has bi-polar in the family, anxiety disorder, distrust, and the 7 year itch all over her mothers side of the family. We have really screwed up genes here in America. Don’t marry one of us! hehehe.

I don’t say that Genes are an excuse for bad behavior but probably if we could know that we have certain ”bad genes”, we should try to soften the side effects. For example...I think my ex should just remain single. Do us men a favor.

Who am I and what made me what I am? How did I get to be me? One thing we now know for sure is that whoever we are, ultimately we can blame our parents. our DNA needed to be complex enough to carry all the information needed to pass on characteristics from parent to child. It also needed to be stable enough to be entrusted with the task. And it also needed be capable of changing so as to allow for changes in nature , even with the dna man script people still think them are determining how they behave not realizing nature’s constant drive for the strongest genes will never allow loyalty of her top breeders ,only the dizzy minds of emotion will never know how it works and blindly follow natures quest
Trust no young breeder and if you do your a fool

Hi Joel,

ha ha...What can i say! i ended up laughing non stop..please do not take any offence, i think you have a good sense of humour. In all fairness, this was just a perspective, may be a certain part can be attributed to our genes, society, upbringing, family and a lot of other complex factors.I guess you are right in a way, if the tendency persists and is a repetitive pattern, we can be honest in facing it and choose to be married or stay single and not ruin someone’s life.

Hey Anindita!

Well, my theory comes from a serious experience. My exwife left me with no merits. Things were ok for the first 4 years we were together (according to research, non-monogamous people are fine for the first 4 years) but then she became strangely distant and abusive. Almost over night. So we had a very bad downward spiraling for 3 years. The better husband I became or the better person I became, the more she hated me. So strange. I was doing all of the cooking, laundry, house work, diaper changes, baths for the kids, dressing them, AND I worked a job and supported the family. I think I was a good guy. No hump on my back, no tragically bad breath, I am proportioned OK. I prayed too. Nothing worked. Finally on Google news I saw the science report about the monogamy gene discovered at Emory University. It floored me! The pieces fit perfectly! I had my answer. Now the job for me was to NEVER marry one of these freaks again and to pray to get over my feelings for the ex. I did it! Now I am married to a wonderful woman who has no divorce in her family. :-D

Dear Wayne,

Loved reading your comment!Especially ”ultimately we can blame our parents.”
Complex enough, sometimes it is not even our parents..ancient Hindu scriptures supported polygamy and particularly pertinent to the priestly caste.I guess this perspective was just a flicker of a candle to throw some light on some known behavioral traits..the complexity and immensity of our own nature is beyond our comprehension though honesty can be a way to come to terms with who we are and what we are. Thanks for posting your comment.

People always make somthing difficult or mysterious out of simple things thus making their thoughts more legitimate
It is simple, nature wants the strongest genes and every waking moment and everything we do is in the preparation of the forming of these genes ,then by attraction and breeding of the strongest nature gets what it wants
It is so strong that right until our dieing breath we still try to flower up to be pollinated

Dear Wayne,

It was very refreshing for me to read your comment and a very valid
perspective.

Nature and its laws are simple, however we derive gratification by
making it as complicated as we can and molding it to our demand and
satisfaction and sometimes norms. While we are aware of the law of
nature, we are also conditioned in our beliefs, and try to validate
every inevitable attraction for the opposite sex or eventual mating.

Thank you indeed for this perspective.
